Please understand that these suggestions are believed to help promote faster healing and optimal results but CANNOT be guaranteed. Some people do heal well, regardless of what they do, while others will take extra care of everything and will not have great results. I suggest that you take these recommendations to heart. So, for the next 14 days, you should be committed to taking good care of and protecting your treated area.
Exercise increases the heart rate and expands pores and produces sweat. All effects promote a loss of color retention. For the best results please avoid exercise and sweating for 12-14 days following your procedure.
Please do not tan or expose the area to sun for one month prior and forever after the procedure. Tanning is detrimental to the procedure. Sun exposure will fade your pigment fast and also turn the pigment grey and ashy. If you are in the sun, protect the area with spf or a hat.
No exfoliants or hard scrubbing for 2 months, because even though the skin is healed on the outside, it is still healing on the inside. Do not disturb the healing process.
Lawn mowing, gardening, cleaning out the garage etc. should wait until the healing is complete. Keep your HANDS OFF! Touching your tattoo could introduce bacteria into the open area which could cause an infection.
Or it could result in an infection and color loss.
If you sleep on the treated area, you WILL lose color and also stain your nice linens. Prevention is important. You may find that a travel neck pillow comes in quite handy after permanent makeup.
Please understand that chlorinated and salt water will discolor and/or totally remove your pigment. You should do your best to take a bath/shower with lukewarm water. NOT HOT WATER. The steam of the hot water will promote loss of color. I have found it easier to take a bath and avoid your face area completely. Before your bath, wash the lower part of your face as normal, avoiding your forehead. Use a damp cotton round or face wipe and very carefully wet your forehead, then put face wash on the cloth and carefully remove the dirt and oil. Then a new wet round to remove the face wash. It is best to face directly down at the sink, so the water/face wash doesn’t run down to your tattoo.
After your procedure is finished, blot the area with a damp cotton round every 15-30 minutes until you run out of rounds. If instructed by your technician only, you will wash and rinse the tattooed area on the first night following the washing directions for your skin type. Expect swelling for the first 24-48 hours. If you feel extreme redness and burning, please contact your technician.
Starting on the first night and for 10 -14 days after, apply a very thin, sheer amount of ointment once a day. Or as needed. After Day 4 you can apply an extra film of ointment during the day to help relieve any dryness or itchiness if they bother you. Use sterile bandages or sterile dressings when necessary.
Such as alpha hydroxy, glycolic or phenol acids, Retin-A, Retinol, fruit peels and bleaching creams can cause a loss of color and should be applied around the tattooed area, never over the area. Just be aware of this and expect you may require more follow-up sessions.
Some people will require more follow-up visits than others. Your metabolism, overall health, age, medical condition, elasticity of skin, excessive oiliness/dryness, uneven texture, scar tissues, can all cause different outcomes.
